The Journey of the San Jiao / Triple Burner Lines
The triple burner channel begins on the fourth/ring finger on the outer corner of the nail. It moves between the two bones of the forearm through the tip of the elbow and up the back of the arm to the shoulder.
Behind the top of the shoulder it connects with the small intestine and governing vessel lines before rising over the shoulder toward the collarbone. It moves internally to the pericardium in the upper burner and then to the abdomen in the middle and lower burners.
Surfacing again at the chest beneath the collarbone, it ascends the gallbladder line on the forehead toward the small intestine line on the cheek; Beneath the surface it moves across the front of the ear toward the outer eyebrow with the gallbladder line.
The San Jiao / Triple Burner Meridian | Minister of Dykes and Dredges
The San Jiao meridian manages the circulation and changes of both solids and fluids within the body. It also helps regulate nourishing and protective Qi. Though not an organ itself, it is an energy system that helps to regulate organs in various cavities of the body.
The three “burners” are…
- Upper Burner (tongue to entrance of stomach) which helps protect the functionality of the heart and lungs. This burner helps with respiration.
- Middle Burner (stomach) which helps protect the functionality of the stomach, spleen and pancreas. Sends the energy from food out to the body where it’s needed most.
- Lower Burner (pyloric valve to the urinary tract and anus) which helps separate pure from impure digested food. This burner harmonizes the functionality of the liver, kidney, bladder, intestines and sex organs.
Several specific physical symptoms that may point to an imbalance include: uncontrollable sweating, chronic fatigue, respiratory issues, issues in urinary and gynecological organs.
The San Jiao meridian helps to stabilize consciousness, bring a feeling of benevolence and kind-heartedness as well as stimulate a feeling of joy.
There are 23 points along this meridian line and the element of the San Jiao channel is fire. Every meridian has a yin or yang counterpart or complimentary meridian. The San Jiao lines are yang and the Pericardium lines are the yin counterpart that also share the fire element. The active season for the San Jiao meridian is summer and the time of day the meridian is most active is between 9pm – 11pm. The color that represents this meridian is orange red.
